Researchers believe they have found a single chromosome that may cause Autism Spectrum Disorder

University of Utah researchers think they've pinpointed a region on a single chromosome that likely carries a gene that could cause autism. The study involved 31 members of one family, seven of whom have autism or a related disorder. The findings are similar to Finnish studies of families that linked autism to the same chromosome region.Autism is a disorder that usually appears by age 3, and is generally characterized by impaired communication and social interaction. The study was led by researchers at the University of Utah School of Medicine and published in "Human Heredity" online.
